THITHI- kannada movie review of laughing date with death .

Its been long ago,a kannada movie made me slip into reverie dwelling on the plot, cast, realitistic drama or foot tapping music or lip syncing lyrics. Mango showers had started last fortnight,entire kannada film making fraternity was in a buzz, tripping on news of National award for debutant directorial movie THITHI. Title itself is sort of colloqial word which has varied expression n expectation , a 11th day post funeral gathering to see off the departed soul. Pun apart thithi in old mysore rural region is gala of perfect non-vegetarian dishes served with ragi balls.

Assuming movie to be 'me too ' types had not given a thought of watching it, well the word of mouth was fast spreading my maid was in all praise for the thithi,who had influenced my mother as a best watch. Gowda friends were all rejoicing the fame of mandya taken upto  Locarno International Film Festival but the THITHI also went on to win two prestigious awards Golden Leopard, Filmmakers of the Present Competition and “Swatch First Feature Award” for the best first feature in the entire festival.National award too in its list .What else is needed for a debutant director and nonprofessional cast in movie. Not even a single big time artist in the movie, still bagging all sort of fame n name.

2 hours i spent on movie was such an captivating , slow moving realistic story which was well knit around the death n thithi of century gowda. A 3 generation saga involving century gowda ,gadappa,his son n grand son can blow off  a kannadiga into head held high feeling. Initial 10 minutes, dialogues of century gowda n the subtitles english translation is ROFL stuff. Every moment of script has such realsim of rural dialect n culture,somewhere it will definitely get you involved n thoroughly entertain you. The Heroine of transhumance group in movie is stalked by great grand son of century gowda,who ends up in getting her nose pierced. The love story of 3rd generation is vividly captured n timely climaxed. Materialistic pursuit of 2nd generation is right in front glaring with reckless risk n misadventures. Ofcourse movie comes with package of 1st generation Wisdom guru Gadappa who is always on the  move- n likes to 'stour India' .

Well rural picteresque of mandya , -sugarcane fields , goats n sheeps,fast money making sand mafia ,ride on hero honda score high points for excellent cinematography.  Not to miss the Band set with timely tunes through out movie adds on to the fun in the movie. 

Welcome aboard Raam Reddy , grand son of 1st mysore cheif minister who directed this exceptional creative plot raising the standards of sandalwood. Well there is so much spikes in kannada film creativity LUCIA,UTURN,RANGITHARANGA,Pushpaka vimana ,Ulidavaru kandanthe, THITHI.  And yes watching latest kannda movies wont be disappointing anymore i believe.
